The Tazewell/Pekin Consolidated Communications Center, commonly referred to as Tazcomm, was established by an intergovernmental agreement between the City of Pekin and Tazewell County. Tazcomm is registered as a separate not for profit corporation chartered by the State of Illinois. It is governed by a board consisting of the Pekin Police Chief, the Sheriff of Tazewell County, the Mayor of Pekin and the Tazewell County Board Chariman.
Tazcomm is the largest of the four dispatch centers in Tazewell County and is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Tazcomm is staffed by a Director, Operations Supervisor and telecommunicators who are trained in emergency medical dispatch.
There are 6 answering positions at Tazcomm. Each answering position is configured the same and is equipped with a Zetron Intergrator RD radio dispatch console, Zetron Series 3200 telephone console and Sungard/HTE computer aided dispatch system. There are a total of 12 dedicated 9-1-1 trunks, 8 for wireline 9-1-1 calls and 4 for wireless 9-1-1 calls.
In 2013, Tazcomm handled 22,426 emergency 9-1-1 calls. Of those calls, 18,282 were wireless 9-1-1 calls and 4,144 were wireline 9-1-1 calls.
